Involving Third Sector Organisations NHS Lothian recognises the value of working in partnership to maximise health outcomes for patients and has a long history of working with Third Sector partners who deliver supports that compliment those provided for patients, families and carers. There is also a recognition that the safety of patients is paramount. In response NHS Lothian has developed checks and processes to ensure that the involvement of Third Sector organisations is to the benefit of patients, families or carer and is appropriately delivered by an appropriate provider. What is a Third Sector organisation? The term ‘third sector’ relates to organisations that are not for profit and non-governmental, in contrast to the public and private sectors.
