Planning With People

In March 2021 the Scottish Government published new guidance to public bodies on carrying out their duties to engage with the public over the development of and changes to services. Entitled Planning With People, the updated guidance ensures that Integrated Joint Boards and Local Authorities join NHS Boards to include the voice of users in their planning processes. It is the key document against which these organisations will benchmark their engagement activities.

Planning with people promotes real collaboration between NHS Boards, Integration Joint Boards and Local Authorities. It sets out the responsibilities each organisation has to community engagement when services are being planned, or changes to services are being planned, and supports them to involve people meaningfully.

NHS Lothian Involving People – A New Framework

The NHS Lothian Involving People Framework 2021 was published in May 2021. The NHS Lothian Board signed off the new Framework, which paves the way for greater cooperation with the Health and Social Care Partnerships over engagement issues. It also signals clear intent to increase the profile and effectiveness of public engagement in Lothian.

The new Framework is the foundation for a raft of measures – which are already underway – aimed at building a strong presence for engagement throughout NHS Lothian.

The Framework supports the implementation of the propositions contained in the Our Health, Our Care, Our Future, the NHS Lothian Strategic Plan 2014 – 2024 and NHS Lothian’s corporate objectives.
