Requests for Personal Information including Health Records: Subject Access Requests

Data Protection Legislation gives individuals the right to request access to personal information that an organisation, such as NHS Lothian, hold about them. This is called a Subject Access Request or a SAR.

You can request copies of Health Records held by NHS Lothian in the following ways:

The SAR portal is provided by an external company called Automatic Messaging Services Limited who have a contract with NHS Lothian to provide this portal. You can view the companies Data Protection Notice here

If you wish to request copies of deceased patient’s records the Access to Health Records Act (1990) applies.
